There was an article written recently on 63xc.com about how singlespeeding is dead. Read it and come to your own conclusion but ere are my few words on the issue. Singlespeeding when born was born out of fun and the need to expand the sport to the few users who had done what they wanted to do and needed something new. I began ss'ing in the fall of 1993 and I have watched it rise and now (maybe) fall. I was captivated by the simplicity of it and the silence of the bike. I was also in love with the fact that you had to try hard and you had to think as you rode. It to me was a new and beautiful sport. Then after many years of that I rode my way into fixed off road (ballet) ss'ing. My thought on the fall of ss'ing was when the lycra clad racers took it over as cool. But all in all I would have to say that those who are in the sport for pure reasons and have a desire to stay single will. The sport will not die because the few and the hardy will keep chugging up those hills in blissful silence. IAN
